Paragraph 1- What is a toxic relationship? Provide an example of a toxic relationship from the movies, pop culture (celebrities), history, or literature and explain why it is toxic.
Paragraph 2- Make a prediction about the play. What two characters have the potential to enter in to a toxic relationship? Explain why using specific evidence from the text.
A toxic relationship is one that is detrimental to one of the people involved, or both. An example of a toxic relationship would be the one between Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis in the movie Friends with Benefits. Justin and Mila think that they can pursue a relationship solely based on sexual interaction with the lack of feeling/love. The pair quickly runs into problems when they realize that they have feelings for each other and are only hurting themselves.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to The Taming of the Shrew, I predict that a toxic relationship will sprout between Petruchio and Kate. Petruchio and Kate both have bold, self-absorbed personalities. Because of this, I feel like they will constantly clash. Also, Petruchio is looking at the relationship for all the wrong reasons. He doesn’t actually care about Kate, but just wants her for her father’s fortune. Lastly, Petruchio compares Kate to a beast when he says he has handled beasts and seas.
I agree with your statement on how Pertruchio and Kate could possibly have a toxic relationship. They both aren't always on the same page, and one Pertruchio really is in it only for the money. Their relationship is based on lies.
DeleteI agree with Chris that a toxic relationship is harmful to the victim. I also agree that Petruchio and Kate will have a toxic relationship. It doesn’t seem like neither of them will let up in being the dominant person in the relationship. Another thing is that I believe Petruchio is a gold digger and just wants Kate’s fathers’ fortune. He just has to stay with Kate long enough though to get that fortune.

DeleteA toxic relationship is a relationship that is unhealthy and isn't growing healthier or building to the next level. There's always gonna be arealtionship I. Which one person needs the pushing, but there comes a time when someone must realize that it's time to let the toxic person go. To be honest the relationship isn't going anywhere. For example Chris Brown and Rihanna dated and were cited and it looked like a good relationship. Things started to change Becuase sooner or later we found that Chris Brown had an anger issue. He and Rihanna had a deep argument and he ended up brutally beating her. So in this case Chris Brown was the toxic person in the relationship.
ReplyDeleteI feel that Bianca and her suitor Lucentio will have a toxic relationship. I mean yes it seems almost impossible for Bianca to be toxic due to the description of her character as being the sweet one, but that can change. I believe that Bianca will become the toxic one where she like to take over a lot and get what she wants. In the text it say that Bianca is loved by all men because she is sweet, but what if she does this on purpose so that by winning their hearts and being with one of them she'll be able to control them to get them to do whatever she may ask. It's not a dumb idea, she could literally be showing this good side of her to trick them in.
I agree with what Chelsea is saying about the term toxic relationship and about who will have a toxic relationship in The Taming of the Shrew. When you get pushed enough you just cant take it no more and have to let the toxic person go. She also has a point about Bianca because what if it is an act. Maybe she is a manipulative and controlling person. That would mean that Bianca is two faced though and that’s not a good person to marry to be honest.

DeleteThe term toxic relationship in my eyes means a relationship that is harmful to both people but, toxic relationships can be turned back into a healthy relationship. A toxic relationship can destroy a person emotionally, mentally, and if the relationship is really bad physically. For example a common toxic relationship that didn’t end well was Chris Brown and Rihanna. At first the relationship started out well, but didn’t finish well at all. It got to a point where Chris Brown started to physically hurt Rihanna. Chris gave Rihanna the hands like there was no tomorrow, figuratively speaking of course. What I mean by this is that Chris didn’t hit her not one time, but more then one time and he used tremendous force. Enough force to the point where Rihanna showed sure signs of physical beating on her face.
ReplyDeleteNow I believe that from the Taming of the Shrew story that Petruchio and Katherine will have a toxic relationship. I say this because Katherine is described as loud, bad tempered, and a shrewd which is why not many guys want to marry her. Now Petruchio is described as rough and unfeeling who is just looking for a wife. They do have a sort of similarity because there both bold with aggressive personalities. Petruchio does plan to transform Katherine from the woman she is now to an obedient and happy wife. He states he has confronted wild animals, surging seas, and battles so handling Katherine won’t be too hard.
I agree about how Rihanna and Chris Brown had an example of a toxic relationship because Chris emotionally destroyed Rihanna from that. I agree that Katherine and Petruchio are going to have an toxic relationship because it relates to Chris Brown and Rihannas.
DeleteI think Abdul is very smart in using Chris Brown and Rihanna's relationship as one that is toxic. Chris Brown and Rihanna always had troubles and the public only saw some of it. It was not only toxic to Rihanna physically, but also emotionally and mentally.

ReplyDeleteA toxic relationship is a negative perspective of a person that has affected your lifestyle in a negative way. Toxic relationships can be our personal or occupational lives. These people who are “toxic” bring you down and make you feel “used” in a way. This can be unhealthy to the mind and can change a person’s personality. Once in a toxic relationship, you must get away as quick as possible from them, or try to resolve it. A 5 step system can help a person get out of this loop. The steps are, Step out of denial, identify the perks, Fill the holes, Surround yourself with positive people, and heal the shame. I believe the most important one step is surrounding you with positive people, because the group can influence a person to do well or to do badly.

For all we know, Bianca can become demanding and be just like her sister, Katherine, and become a shrew. Though everybody loves her for her looks, her personality is unfamiliar. This is who I think would get in a toxic relationship later in the book.
I agree that in a toxic relationship you need to be surrounded by people who love you. I also agree that Bianca and Lucentio will become a toxic relationship.

A growing distance is emergent, but you must overcome by walking around, and ignoring the person. Take a positive stance and create strong boundaries, where a toxic relationship will not come into your life again. Focus on good things and focus on future accomplishments. Toxic relationships degrade people and you must take yourself out of them.
ReplyDeleteI think Kate and Pertuchio will have a toxic relationship later in the book. Pertucio is looking for wealth and he is just tricking Kate father to marry her for the money. If Kate finds out she will be furious and a toxic relationship will occur. The best way to keep it safe is that Pertucio should not mention money and it will be all his since he is self-conflicted.
I agree that if Kate finds out she will be very pissed and upset with Petruchio. I like how you said a toxic relationship degrades someone.
DeleteA toxic relationship is basically an unhealthy relationship for one of the individuals or both of them. Chris Brown and Rihanna is the best example i can think of because Chris always beat down on Rihanna and made her feel worthless and less of a person than she actually is. Pictures released of Rihanna beaten on and black and blue in the face. She obviously was dealing with this for a while and Brown ended up going to jail. She ended up having to go to the hospital and never gained anything beneficial from the relationship.
ReplyDeleteIn the story the near future relationship of Petruchio and Katherine will be a toxic relationship. The best way to describe both of them is two bulls running towards each other and not stopping until one is dead. Petruchio has been through wars, seas and beats and swears he can tame Katherine. She is basically a beast and and thinks she can rule anyone and anything. He only cares about her money and you can just tell he will do anything to inherit it.
I agree with Tony, they are both very stubborn people. Putting two bull together, like Tony said; one may end up hurt.

Petruchio can be rough and careless who is just wanting to have a wife. They both have aggressive personalities which is going to involve in their relationship. Petruchio says that he can handle Katherine because he has confronted seas,animals, and battles. It will end up a toxic relationship because Petruchio plans on beating Katherine as he said in the book.

ReplyDeleteI believe a potential from Katherine and Petruchio, since Petruchio is going after marrying Katherine, she is very ill tempered, not caring about other's feelings, will insult him to no end. Petruchio says in the book he will even beat Katherine up!
A toxic relationship to me is basically a relationship that is harmful to one or more in the relationship. A toxic relationship can be trouble emotionally, physically, and mentally due to what is occurring in the emotion. Mostly in a relationship, the one that is the cause of the toxic relationship is actually not aware of the damage he or she is causing and totally is oblivious to the fact that they are hurting the other individual in the relationship. Nigella Lawson a tv chef and her husband were in a toxic relationship because he was caught choking her in a public cafe in front of a lot of people, this is a toxic relationship because it caused physical harm to Lawson.
ReplyDeleteIn Taming Of The Shrew, Katherine and Bianca have the potential to form a toxic relationship because they already show signs of anger towards each other and they show negativity towards one another. For example, on page 73, they have a conversation with each other but Katherine is angry at Bianca while she is trying to act nonchalant. This continues to annoy Kat until Baptista stumbles in.
I agree with Gevon on how Katherine and Bianca could possibly form a toxic relationship with one another. Katherine seems to be the angry one towards Bianca most of the time, but that doesn't mean that Bianca doesn't have hate for Kat even if she comes off as innocent.

Shrek is verbally abusive to donkey always putting him down and always saying mean things to him when donkey just wants to be his friend and have someone to have his back. This is a toxic relationship because while Donkey helps Shrek get his home back in order, he doesn’t get anything in return.
I predict that Petruchio and Katherine will have a toxic relationship because while Petruchio is being honest with the other men, he is trying to change Katherine and the way she is and to me that is not okay. You shouldn’t be wanting to change someone unless its for the better, KAtherine is strong minded, independent and bold. Back then its understood that, that is not how women should be. Yet today trying to change someone just for your own benefits its bad, i would pin this as a toxic relationship.
